This doesn’t do the windows justice at all… They are a gorgeous western red cedar frame with double glazing and a slight tint. We weren’t expecting the tint (and to be honest, would really prefer it without – it may cause some problems with our solar-passive design and plans for utilising the thermal mass of the slab to heat our house in winter), but they are STUNNING.

I’ve been incredibly slack with these updates, although have been out on site every day checking the progress with much excitement!!
Today they are strapping the roof frame and prepping it for the colourbond roofing, and they have also completed the parapet wall!
Tomorrow they expect the windows to be delivered. Our house should be fully framed and windowed by the end of the week. YAY!!!

The wood for the frame arrived today right on schedule. I think Alyssa is hoping it’s for a giant cubby house.

Hopefully they’ll start putting it together soon!
Last Wednesday the plumbers arrived on site and hooked up the sewerage lines as well as what I think is the inlet line for the water. It was great to be able to have a quick chat to them as due to the slope of the land they were not able to put the grey water lines together on the right hand side of the block as we originally wanted, but were able to put them to the side on the left which should work almost as well. They also pointed out that it would be much easier to do some of the backyard landscaping and cut the driveway now while we have access for a bobcat over the slab. The framing is due on Tuesday so we had very limited time, but they put us in touch with a couple of people to try to contact.
We arranged with one of them, Guliano to come out on Sunday and dig out the driveway, put down some road base and put the excess soil out the back as well as level the area that will eventually be the baby & cat play area. Guliano was great! Not only is he amazingly dexterous with his bobcat, but he went far beyond what he needed to do. With 3 of us he helped move our two 22kL water tanks upright on to a concrete slab . Last time we tried to move just one of them it took about eight of us. He also spent all day moving and levelling soil and getting the road base down. We have a big pile of it in the backyard now to use for paving as well. We were so happy with what he did and how helpful he was, we paid him more than what we’d originally agreed on.
