Standing in the pantry doorway looking out

standing in the dining room looking at the kitchen

Likely place for plates, cups, cutlery, etc

The island bench – we’re a little worried that the second dish drawer (WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY down the far end) may be difficult to get the water and waste pipes to as there is very little room at the back of the cabinets! Also hoping that the dishwasher is capable of pumping the waste water that far! If not, we might have to do some rearranging and have the rubbish bin cabinet moved to the far end and the dishwasher placed closer to the sink…

The cooking area. The tall oven tower with microwave and recipe books above the oven. 900mm cooktop goes in where the top cupboard is cut away to allow for slide-out rangehood. The commercial wok burner goes where the bench is lowered, and it has a concealed rangehood going in above it. All the holes have been cut to allow for rangehood venting =))) SO exciting!

The appliance cabinet inside the pantry. Frequently used items stay on the benchtop above for easy sliding through the hole in the wall so that we can use them in the kitchen, then slide them back through to the pantry for invisibility! =)))) YAY!

Pantry shelves!!!

My beautiful laundry with doors on =)

Main bathroom linen cupboard. One of the doors is missing, but *should* be there prior to handover!

Main bathroom vanity – with handles!! Apparently they’re out of stock for our handles and only had enough available to do the vanities

Ensuite vanity with handles (and one drawer front missing). The kickboard hasn’t been added here yet as the wonky wall still needs to be fixed.

The big picture

The kitty litter area – we are hoping that the panel in front will stop most of the kitty litter spread that happens from overzealous cats kicking around a little too hard!

The trough will sit into the only cabinet in this wall, which also acts as a barrier between the kitty litter and where the washing machine and laundry hamper will live.

The great wall of storage!! Broom cupboard at the start, then linen cupboard for the length of the laundry. I am making up for lack of linen cupboard in our place in Canberra!!

The wonky wall with my ensuite cabinets installed – the wall still needs to be fixed and the cabinet finished off.

The ensuite cabinets

The main bathroom vanity cabinets (very similar to the ensuite!)

With the roller door closed =)

All the drawers (and my beautiful girl!)

The darker coloured piece is the laundry bench top – the only bench so far delivered as everything else is essa stone (to be delivered later)

The doors and benchtops are yet to be put on, but OMFG it’s awesome!

Inside the pantry – this is the appliance cupboard.

Looking back out to the kitchen through the appliance door

The original “appliance cabinet” supplied by the builder – this will be for our sauces and oils that we use for cooking

And looking again at our kitchen =)))

We’re fully locked out!! And here’s why =))))

My oven tower! So yum =)

Laundry linen cupboards! The opposite wall is the main laundry with trough and washing machines. There will be bench top the entire length of that wall.

kick boards and laundry bench top

fully locked out! Looking at my kitchen through our no-longer-missing doors!

Our missing doors have been located! Now they just need to be fitted =)

And the front of the house is looking pretty sweet =)

Today *would be* lockup day!! Except they’ve lost some of our doors!!

Our gorgeous front door and all internal doors have just been delivered. Photos to follow. BUT… I just got a phone call from our site supervisor asking if we had removed any of our sliding glass doors from the site! I told him that we had always thought it strange that the glass sliding door was delivered for the bedroom but not the living areas, and that he had told us that the sliding doors and fly screens were not meant to have been delivered. All flyscreens were on site and have since been removed by Longridge.

So not sure when we will have lockup, but it was supposed to be today!

Photos of the delivery of the doors:

Now, my sexy front door =)))))

Update: installed =)))

And the internal garage door (to complete lockup):

Apparently they still can’t find our sliding glass doors, so the back section of the house will be boarded up. They’d better not damage our western red cedar frames!! Bad enough having the one damaged in the bedroom and waiting to see if they’ll come to the party and just replace it (or repair it properly), or if we’re going to have to fight for it… My 18 month old daughter shouldn’t have to put up with someone else’s cigarette damage before she’s even moved into her bedroom!! Nor should we have to have a warped or otherwise damaged window from a poor repair job when we’ve paid an absolute premium for brand new, western red cedar, double glazed windows.

We’re currently in the process of obtaining quotes for our alfresco/pergola area.

The solar passive design of the house relies heavily on us being able to open the long area from the dining room down to the end of Christopher’s office to allow for maximum sun exposure in the winter, and cover it over completely to prevent any heat build-up in summer. During the winter the sun will hit the beautiful dark, natural stone tiles and the heat will be transferred into the slab. This is turn will mean that the slab will return the heat into the house when the room temperature is no longer above the slab temperature. It’s all about using thermal mass to regulate the internal temperature.

Likewise, if we keep the thermal mass cool in summer then it should help to cool down the house. This is why we need to protect the slab from any sun, and will likely include us needing to insulate the outside of the slab if we can to prevent heat loss/gain from the sides.

So… The plans (click for a larger version) =)

pergola

The blue lines show where we’re planning to have the pergola structure. The red squares show the posts to hold up the pergola. The pale blue shaded area shows where we probably want a permanent roofing system in place (the alfresco), and the green shaded area displays where we want fully retractable shades. We’re considering this product: Shaderunner Retractable Shades

If you or anyone you know would like to provide us with a quote to do this job, we’d love to hear from you!!

The plasterers were still finishing up withthe gyprocking when we were onsite at 5:30. This is what we found 2 hours later!!
